Hot Mesh
Hot Mesh is a Naarm based trio featuring the likes of Ross Anderson on Double bass, Luke Andresen on drums and Zeb Vesico on guitar. While taking inspiration from the energetic improvisations and complex rhythmic language of modern jazz guitar luminaries such as Lage Lund and Kurt Rosenwinkel, Hot Mesh also pays homage to the styles of local Australian musicians, including the likes of Carl Morgan. Hot Mesh’s musical style is characterised by lyrical interplay between, dynamic improvisations and propulsive rhythmic language creating an intricate tapestry of sound and texture.
DATA ENTRY’ Is a trio formed by drummer/composer Luke Andresen and featuring Bernard Alexander on Woodwinds and Ross Anderson filling in on Electric Bass. All of the compositions were written with these musicians and instrumentation in mind and explore the juxtaposition of compositional influences such as Duke Ellington, Ornette Coleman and John Hollenbeck in a contemporary trio setting, reminiscent of groups like Happy Apple, Refuge Trio and KCL. The compositions give consideration to the uncomfortable circumstances surrounding the COVID lockdowns in Melbourne and the period of reflection that was imposed upon most artists around this time, using each musician’s unique music voice as a catalyst for excitement, composition and as a launching pad for improvisation.
