We will be screening Fritz Lang's 1927 science-fiction epic Metropolis and performing a live score written by Jon Hunt as part of WTF Tuesdays.

Lang's masterpiece, Metropolis is the first feature length sci-fi film, depicting a highly stylized Bauhaus-inspired futuristic city with alchemy, a robot, revolution, love and revenge in an unprecedented spectacle from Weimar Germany.

Jon Hunt (clarinet, saxophone), James Bowers (keys), Hugh Harvey (drums) Ronny Ferella (percussion).

"Hunt's composition has taken just a few themes from the original orchestral arrangement and adapted them into his wider, jazz-inflected score, and included improvisation. The result is a resounding success: a splendid contemporary accompaniment to this early film with its intriguing concepts of the future in scientific and social constructs. Scenes of drama, suspense, malevolence and more are depicted with music perfectly underpinning and portraying the onscreen action." - JOHN MCBEATH
