What to expect
Come down to the Brunswick Green for an evening of solo piano and solo guitar to delight the ears. Marcos and Romy will be preforming individual sets then joining for a little music together! Let the strings and hammers take you on a journey!
Romy Hernandez (piano)
Romy Hernandez is a classically trained Cuban pianist who relocated to Australia more than a decade ago. It was in Australia where she discovered her passion for composition, jazz and improvisation as she immersed herself in Melbourne's dynamic music landscape. Graduating with honours from the Victorian College of the Arts in jazz and contemporary music, she furthered her education with a Master's in Performance Teaching at Melbourne University in 2022. Known for her roles as a composer, arranger, and pianist in various Latin bands and Latin jazz ensembles, Romy has become a respected figure in the local music community. She contributed as a composer to former Latin jazz ensembles El Numero Perfecto and Ella Trinidad. Her latest released album, ‘Poems of Bliss and Loss’, represents a heartfelt return to her roots and a profound exploration of her first love – the piano.
Marcos Villalta (guitar)
Marcos Villalta is a Melbourne based musician, composer and recording artist. He is part of a diverse body of Melbourne bands. He has a strong background in improvisation and Jazz, which created his adaptable music persona. Bands he has played in are from the fields of jazz, avant garde, funk, hip-hop, and blues, with influences ranging from cumbia to samba. Current recognisable bands include: Koi Kingdom, Firetail, M Eduardo and more. His discography spans the early 2000s up until 2023. Following his high school years, he received tertiary music Education at the Victorian College Of The Arts where he joint a network of many accomplished artists, and some of the finest educators in Melbourne. Other current projects include solo guitar performances, Gemma Horbury’s “The Story Of Here”, guesting in the samba and Choro group Sweet Coco, and other side projects.
