Su/Bhat & Dean Kalait Quartet!

  • The Brunswick Green 313 Sydney Road Brunswick, VIC, 3056 (map)

This Tuesday features sets from Su/Bhat & Dean Kalait Quartet!

Yona Su: Ex-classical violist, interdisciplinary artist, creative activist – Yona (she/her) is an emerging musician who uses free improvisation and interdisciplinary practices to critique the white hegemonic system that BIPOC exist under. She is focussed on accessibility for those least advantaged by bridging less understood genres (like free improvisation and classical music) to different audiences. Yona seeks to build and foster a safe and understanding community for those similar to her. Recently, Yona has successfully co-curated her first exhibition, Everything I Am Not, in the Canberra Contemporary Arts Space (Manuka) with co-curator, Joyce Fan. Other than curatorship, Yona continues to freelance in free improvised performance and teaches at a school.

Aditya Bhat: Aditya is a Narrm/Melbourne-based musician working across improvised and notational, acoustic and electronic practices. Though spending the majority of time playing percussion, Aditya is also involved in composing, curating, and writing about music, bringing a clear political focus to all of these activities. For example, the recent project fixed/fleeting (for New North Music) examined relationships between settler-colonial practices and ecology in the context of the Birrarung (Yarra River).
