Forró is traditionally a couple's dance party from northeast of Brazil in which rhythms such as xote, baião, xaxado, coco and arrasta pé are played and danced to. Contemporarily all kinds of couples are welcome as well as dancing alone.
SWEET COCO is a duo project based in Melbourne formed by Maria Lozano (Spain) on Oboe/Vocals, Fabian Aravalés on Nylon Acoustic Guitar (Chile/Brazil) and Humberto Porto (Brazil) on pandeiro.
The sonorous trio explores the classic pieces of the Brazilian repertoire of Choro, Samba & Bossa Nova by adding their personal taste and merging both musical backgrounds into one.
Choro ("cry" or "lament"), also popularly called chorinho ("little cry" or "little lament"), is an instrumental Brazilian popular music genre which originated in 19th century Rio de Janeiro. Despite its name, the music often has a fast and happy rhythm. It is characterized by virtuosity, improvisation and subtle modulations, and is full of syncopation and counterpoint. Choro is considered the first characteristically Brazilian genre of urban popular music.
